NOTIFICATION OF LANE CLOSURE: BELLAIRS DRIVE
Notice is hereby given that Bellairs Drive will be open to North-bound traffic only from Blandford Road to Pritchard Street as of 12 April 2010 to 1 July 2010. Motorists travelling in a southerly direction are advised to use either Pritchard Street or Witkoppen Road as an alternative route.
Access to Bellairs Drive will be granted to residents at all times. We urge motorists to follow the route diversions on site and adhere to the instructions of the traffic marshals at all times. Further, we apologize for any inconvenience you might experience but trust you will appreciate the long-term benefits the project will bring. _________________ Regards,

RE: NOTIFICATION OF LANE CLOSURE: BELLAIRS DRIVE
I think this is a wonderful idea installing proper storm drains and upgrading the surface of the road. I live on Belairs and see the potholes develop after each storm so it's badly needed. I have a problem with the construction though.
According to the pamphlet that was handed out that mirror what the councillor mentioned, the roads should have been done by 1 July. We're a week or so from August and the one side of the road isn't even finished yet.
I work from home and from my office window, I can see the traffic on the street. The construction workers seem to be working at an extremely slow pace. There are many days where there are absolutely no people working at all. This is sadly the majority of days. At this rate, the roads will be one-ways till the end of the year.
What processes need to take place to make sure that the contractor is keeping to schedule? If the company cannot meet it's timeframes, what can be done to replace the contractor with a company that can?
I understand that storms during April hampered works but this is now bordering on rediculous.
In a related issue, what needs to be done to get the Metro police out to the area to stop those lazy idiots from driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic. I'm sure if they setup camp in the open erf on the corner of Belairs and Hyperion, they'll reach their monthly quota of fines in no time whatsoever. |
