Security Warning- Farmall/Chartwell West and surrounds

E-mail received from J De Beer on the 1st July 2010, which read;
Subject: Security Warning- Farmall/Chartwell West and surrounds

Hello Residents.

There have been 4 Burglary incidents in the last 7 Days all in the Farmall extension area. N.B. They are targeting Motorcycles, Laundry, Borehole pumps and tools.

Entry Techniques used:
Forced Motor gate open Ladder over electric fence Cutting of fence

It is obvious this group is well skilled at undetected entry.
I will forward to SAPS and Security Companies, however they can only do so much as patrols the streets and when looking at the size of the area a patrol only travel on “roads” and accordingly probably only pass by every hour also the vehicles are seen by perpetrators coming from a long distance off giving them ample opportunity to hide.

If I can make a plea:

When in the unfortunate incident of being robbed / burgled, gather as much detail as you can and forward to me, I will pass this on to the SAPS reservists who are actively patrolling the areas. If we can collect relevant information.

And build a knowledge base we will be able to determine
• Is it one group or individuals?
• Are the incidents random, opportunistic or how well planned?
• Timing of incidents, what goods are they targeting?
• Do you have staff on your payroll, have you questioned your staff, where do they live? Is information being provided to the criminals “Inside Job”
• Did the suspects know what was where, have the goods been recently replaced or purchased?
• If they steal tools are they for resale or to be used in other robberies? (Bobbejan, Crowbars, hacksaw, Bolt cutter, Pliers, screwdrivers, power tools) Power tools will be for resale.
• Point of entry, point of exit, some idea of how they moved around on the premises, i.e. did they know where security system were being used? Did they choose a particular point of entry because it was known to be a soft spot?
• Vehicles (motor bikes, Quads, bicycles) could the suspects have prior knowledge that there are motorbikes on the site, are they visible from the road or used often? For instance if they knew there was a motorbike on site, they cannot carry it over a wall so they would plan the entry carefully, Force a Gate, Fence cutting. Was the steering locked and were the keys available?
• Look at the volume of goods and time taken in the burglary did they move it by hand, or would they need transport.
• Have your dogs been playing up, what were the times Keep a log book of observations.
I do realise not all information is known but it is my belief that looking at the incident will deliver a lot of information that could help in either finding ways to catch the perpetrators or at least better secure areas .

Toyota Hillux gang posing as furniture removal company - PLS POST LOOKOUT

Email received from G Garrett on the 19th July 2010, which read

Subject: FW: Toyota Hillux gang posing as furniture removal company - PLS POST LOOKOUT

You might want to pass this on to the greater Fourways area.
Toyota Hillux with a loading trailer, colour white, registration number SWJ 192 GP, entered the Greenpark Access Control enclosure (Flamink Avenue, Douglasdale) posing as a furniture delivery company. Tried to enter houses by purporting to being there to deliver furniture to the owners.

This is a bogus operation.
