Be Ware!! ATM Scam

I went to draw money at the FNB ATM at Northriding square. After I had drawn money an African man, dark complexion, he was wearing glasses, about 5.6ft tall approached me.

He said sorry SIR but you haven't completed your transaction & it wont let me insert my card. I looked at the screen and it said cancel or proceed. I pressed cancel and actually fell for his trick but didn't release my card. He said insert your card, press your pin number and cancel your transaction which I did but then realised that something was wrong.

I then took the number from the ATM to phone FNB and asked the person answering the phone if their procedures has changed, just after that I saw him racing away and I knew something was wrong. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a registration number as he raced away too quickly. I rechecked the atm to try and work out what was happening and noticed they offer a telephone banking option. When you press proceed the telephone banking which is a cardless option appears & offers you a selection of either cancel or proceed, and this was the screen that I saw.

I would just like to warn other people.

DONT'T LET THEM CONFUSE YOU!!

Hi Roger

I got caught in May with the Standard Bank ATM in Boskruin Village Centre. They managed to get over R12k out of my account within 2 days (double my limit!). Fortunately the bank replaced most of the money. Strangely enough my brother also got caught with his credit card in the same month - they managed to grab 12 thousand pounds.....

All I can say is that I am advising all my friends to only use ATMs within banks or shopping centres where there are lots of cameras/security guards. Alternatively I will use an ATM if it's inside a garage and not in the car park. The employees at the bank say that ATM crime is out of control and that they only draw money from inside the bank....
